Draw with Sketch and Marks

Draw by hand, in your page’s own colours. A sketch is a drawing on your page or in a post. Marks are drawn on the page itself, like a circle round a price or an arrow to Buy.

Draw a sketch

Sketch is a block, so it’s on pages built from blocks, and in Issue posts.

  1. Open Add and pick Sketch, under Media. In an Issue post, insert a Sketch from the writer.
  2. Select Draw in the inspector, or double-tap the block. The sketch room opens over the page.
  3. Draw, then select Done.

The room has a pencil, a marker and a highlighter, shapes (box, circle, line and arrow), text, stickers and an eraser. Every pen draws in your page’s colours, so a drawing follows when you change the theme. Pick the sheet’s shape: Full width, Card, Square or Banner. Phone size shows it as wide as it will be on a phone.

To make part of a drawing do something, select it and choose Make it tappable: it can open a chat on WhatsApp, open a link, buy a product from the page, or go to another part of the page. On your page, the drawing draws itself in as visitors reach it. It publishes as plain SVG inside the page, with no script.

Describe it

Done asks for Alt text: what people who can’t see the drawing hear instead. If the drawing is only decoration, tick This drawing is decorative and screen readers skip it. On a page it can wait: Publish opens the first sketch that still needs it before the page goes live.

Sketch together

On a page, up to four people can draw the same sketch at once, each with their own pen. The room names who’s drawing with you. Sketches in Issue posts are drawn by one person at a time.

Mark the page

On a page built from Pieces, select Draw beside the page, or press D: see Stickers, cut-outs and drawing. On a page built from blocks:

  1. In the Editor, select Mark the page under the page. The page becomes paper.
  2. Draw with a pencil, a marker or a highlighter, or a circle, a box or an arrow, in your page’s colours at one of three weights.
  3. Select Done.

A mark holds on to what you drew it on: the words it circles or underlines, a whole block, or the two blocks an arrow joins. It moves with them, so it still lands in the right place on a phone. Use the select tool to see what holds a mark or to move it, and the eraser to take one off. Deleting a block takes its marks with it, and Carya offers Undo.

Limits

  • Up to 400 strokes, shapes and pieces of text in a sketch, and 12 tappable parts.
  • Up to 60 marks on a page.
  • A page holds only so much drawing in all. Carya tells you when a sketch or a page is full.
