Write posts with Issue

Issue is where you write posts and publish them on your own page, each at its own address, with a feed readers can follow.

Write a post

  1. Open Issue in the side menu and select Write a post.
  2. Write. Carya saves as you type. The insert menu adds pictures, galleries, sketches, embeds, tables, callouts, formulas and footnotes, and you can paste Markdown or import a .md file.
  3. Publish the post. It goes live at yourname.carya.page/your-post, in your page’s look.

People on your page who can edit a post can write it together at the same time. On Issue, jot down an idea in a line and start a post from it when you’re ready: your ideas are yours alone.

Publish later

Open the menu next to Publish and select Publish later. Pick a day and a time, in your own time zone, and the post goes live on its own then, as you last saved it. The same menu has Change when it goes live and Cancel the schedule.

Series

A series is posts that belong together, read in order. Readers get a page listing every part, such as yourname.carya.page/series/building-a-guitar, and each part leads to the next. An editor starts one on Issue or in the writer’s Series panel, and can call a part a chapter, an episode, a lesson, a day or a word of their own. A series’ name and description go live as soon as they’re saved. A post joins a series, or moves in it, when the post is published.

History

Each time you publish a post, that version is kept. Open History in the writer to see one as readers saw it, or bring it back as the draft.

Post addresses

Each post has its own address, which you can change in the post’s settings. It follows the title until you pick one. If you change the address of a live post, the old one keeps working and sends readers to the new one. Posts and sections share your page’s addresses, so a post can’t take one a section has, or had.

Import from your blog

  1. In Issue, select Import from your blog.
  2. Paste your blog’s address, or its feed’s. Carya reads its RSS or Atom feed once and lists the posts in it, newest first.
  3. Pick the posts you want, confirm they’re yours to republish, and select Import. They come in as drafts.

An imported post keeps your blog as the original: once it’s published, its page tells search engines the post first lived on your blog (for an https address). It keeps its address from your blog too, such as yourname.carya.page/sambal-matah, with a number added if another post has it. Headings, paragraphs, bold, italic, links, lists, quotes, code, images and rules come across. Embedded videos, frames and forms don’t, and the import says what was left out.

Show posts on your page

On a page built from blocks, add the Posts block to list your newest posts, newest first, with a link to the feed. Set Posts to show to a number from 1 to 50. It updates when you publish or unpublish a post, without publishing your page again.

The feed

Your page has a full-text RSS feed at yourname.carya.page/feed.xml with your 20 newest posts. Readers can follow it in any feed reader and read the whole post there.

Take a post down

Select Unpublish in the post’s settings to take a live post off your page. A post that isn’t live can go to the trash, where you can restore it or delete it for good.
