Publish and update your page

Carya saves as you edit. Publishing puts your draft live, and you publish again whenever you want the live page to change.

Your draft saves itself

Carya saves a moment after each change. The status under the page title says whether the page is a draft or live, and whether your last change is saved. Undo and redo work while you edit.

On a page built from blocks, if the page is open in two tabs or on two devices, a change in one shows up in the other as you make it. A page built from Pieces is edited in one place at a time: see Edit together.

Publish

Select Publish. Carya turns your page into static HTML and CSS and puts it live at your address, and each of its sections at its own. Carya then gives you the link. The first time a page built from blocks goes live, it comes with ways to share it.

Publish can say no. If your plan has no live page left, it asks you to take one offline or upgrade: see Pages per account. If you haven’t added your date of birth, or you’re under 18 and a parent hasn’t confirmed yet, it says that instead: see Your account. If Carya took the page down after a report, it says that: see If Carya takes a page down.

Publish can also ask first. It checks for three things: a page that takes orders and still shows a template’s sample photo (see Sample photos), Buy buttons on a page with no payment account (see Take orders), and links that still go to a template’s samples, such as a bare instagram.com or hello@example.com. It names the blocks that carry them. Each check only asks: go back and fix it, or select Publish anyway.

On a page built from Pieces, Publish also asks about a video or a song with nothing to play, which the page leaves out; a form on a plan without forms, which shows closed (see Forms); a header over a photo with no shade behind its words; and stickers hidden on phones because they’d cover words there. It names the Pieces and sections it means.

Sketches need alt text before they go live: if one has none, Publish opens it and asks. See Sketch and Marks.

Update a live page

Edits don’t reach the live page on their own. The Publish button comes back as soon as you change something: select it again when you’re ready.

Page settings

On a page built from blocks, select no block and the inspector shows settings for the page itself:

  • Page title, the name of your page.
  • Unlisted, to keep the page out of search. See below.
  • Show up in AI answers and Exclude from AI training. See AI training and AI answers.
  • Password, to lock the page. See below.
  • Page language, English or Indonesian.
  • Title for Google and Description, for search results and link previews. Leave the title empty to use the page title.
  • Share image (OG), the picture shown when someone shares your link.
  • Mature, for art that shows nudity: visitors see an age notice first, the page stays out of search, and it isn’t shown in Indonesia.
  • Before buyers pay, on a page that sells: your business name, how buyers reach you, delivery, and refunds and cancelling, shown to buyers before they pay.

On a page built from Pieces, open Page settings beside the page: Title in search and shares, Description, Picture when shared, Language, Unlisted, Exclude from AI training and Password. Mature, Before buyers pay and Show up in AI answers are only in the settings of a page built from blocks.

Keep a page out of search

Switch on Unlisted and, from your next publish, Carya tells search engines not to index the page and leaves it out of its sitemap. Only people who have the link find it.

Search engines wait for a new page anyway. A page stays out of search until it has been live for a day and has something of its own to read, more than a header, buttons and a form. So does a page while a check holds it back (see Automatic checks), and a page marked Mature.

Lock a page with a password

  1. Open the page in the Editor and select nothing, so the inspector shows the page. On a page built from Pieces, open Page settings.
  2. Next to Password, select Add, type a password of 4 to 128 characters and select Save.
  3. Select Publish. The row says Publish to apply it until you do.

Visitors see a lock screen with a password field instead of your page. Once they type the password, their browser stays unlocked for 7 days. Search engines don’t index a locked page, and it has no sitemap.

Carya keeps only a scrambled copy of the password, so it can’t show it to you again. Select Change to set a new one. On a page that’s live and locked, the new password works at once and everyone who unlocked the page has to enter it; otherwise it applies when you publish. Select Remove, then publish, to open the page to everyone. Owners, admins and editors can set it.

Share your page

Once the page is published, select Share on Home or Pages for your link, a QR code to download and share text to copy. In the Editor of a page built from blocks, the share kit also makes link previews, stories, an A4 poster and stickers to download.

The Created with Carya badge

Pages on Free and Plus show a small Created with Carya link in the corner. Pages on Pro and Teams don’t. The plan of the page’s owner decides, whoever on the team publishes.
