Your handle and address
Your handle is your name on Carya. It is also your page’s address: the handle nadia lives at nadia.carya.page.
Handle rules
- 3 to 30 characters.
- Lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens. Capitals you type become lowercase.
- Start and end with a letter or number, with no two hyphens in a row.
- One page per handle, first come, first served.
Some names are reserved for Carya, such as editor, help, shop and www, and handles with offensive words aren’t allowed. The Editor tells you when a handle is taken or not allowed.
Changing your handle
There is no way to change a handle after you claim it. Your address stays the same for as long as your page exists. If you delete a page, its handle stays yours for 30 days before anyone else can claim it. A page Carya took down keeps its handle until Carya allows republishing.
Your own domain
Plus, Pro and Teams can connect a domain you own, such as yourshop.com. Your page then loads at your domain over HTTPS, and it keeps loading at your carya.page address too. Free doesn’t include custom domains.
- Plus connects one domain across all your pages. Pro and Teams connect as many as you need.
- One page can have up to three domains.
- Owners and admins of a page connect its domains.
- Open Settings, go to Domains and select Add a domain.
- Type your domain and select Continue.
yourshop.comandwww.yourshop.commean the same thing, and one connection serves both. - At your domain provider, add the three records Carya shows: two CNAME records, one named
@and one namedwww, both pointing tocname.carya.page, and one TXT record named_carya. If your provider doesn’t allow a CNAME on@, use an ALIAS or ANAME record there. - Carya checks your domain as it goes: found, TXT record found, waiting for DNS, then the HTTPS certificate.
The TXT record proves the domain is yours. Its value is made for your page alone, so copy it exactly. Your page loads at the domain only once Carya finds it, and nobody else can connect a domain you’ve proven. You can delete the TXT record once the domain is live.
DNS can take up to an hour. You can close the window: the domain shows Pending under Domains and turns Live once its HTTPS certificate is issued. To see the records again, select Finish setup. A domain whose TXT record isn’t found within 7 days is removed, and you can connect it again any time.
If Carya says a domain is already connected to another page, someone has proven it with their TXT record. Write to hello@carya.page if that domain is yours.
Buying a domain through Carya isn’t open yet: buy one anywhere, then connect it here. To remove a domain, select the trash icon next to it and confirm. Your page stays at its carya.page address.
If your plan changes to one with fewer domains, such as Pro to Plus, nothing changes at once. At the plan’s next renewal the extra domains disconnect, newest first, and Carya emails you. Moving back up before then calls it off. When a paid plan ends, every custom domain disconnects: see When a plan ends.
Use only your domain
Turn on Use only this domain next to a live domain, and yourname.carya.page sends visitors to it instead of showing the page. Turn it off to show the page at both addresses again. From your next publish, search engines treat your domain as the page’s address.
Pages per account
Every page starts as a draft, and drafts are free on every plan, up to 100 pages in all (delete one to make room for another). Your plan sets how many pages can be live at once. Free allows 3, Plus 5, Pro 10 and Teams 20 for the whole team. Your account lists what else each plan includes.
Select New page on Pages to claim another address. Publishing a page when you’re at your limit asks you to take one offline or upgrade. Republishing a page that is already live never counts against it.
A page built from Pieces can hold up to 20 sections, each at its own address under your handle, such as nadia.carya.page/menu. Sections go live with their page and never count toward your live pages: see Sections.
